“Audition”, as seen in the clip, is a 1999 Japanese movie directed by Takashi Miike which is based on Ryu Murakami’s novel of the same title. I have watched the film version a few times and I think it is one of the best psycho-thriller movies I have ever seen. Recently, I have been reading the English translation of the book, which was published earlier this year. I bought it a few months ago but have not got very far yet. To be continued..
And it continues: Aoyama, a documentary-maker, was asked by his son if he had thought about getting married again. He then got together with an old friend and former colleague at a bar. When the discussion turned to the subject of remarrying, his friend suggested holding a fake audition to find a suitable candidate to be his new bride. From many women who came to the auditioning process, one lady stood out; her name was Yamasaki Asami, who was thought to have similar traits to his deceased wife. Aoyama was delighted to have found the woman he had been looking for but she turned out to be more than he had bargained for.
